Sam + Colin Spring Engagement // Maple Bay

As a side benefit of my job, I am constantly in touch with a lot of outdoor elements - the quality and direction of light, the weather, the seasons, the temperature, the erosion or addition of sand, the strength of the waves, the amount and type of foliage… the list goes on and on. It is something that I personally really cherish about being a photographer in Northern Michigan. So when I talk about the weather or the light or the seasons it really isn’t just to fill blog space (although it’s often the first thing that comes to mind!).

The timing could not have been more perfect to fit this Spring session in with Sam & Colin. Unusually high temperatures for April were giving us lots of Summer vibes and it had me feeling oh so excited for the season to come. If you’ve followed my work at all, you know that Maple Bay is a personal favorite location. I love it at all times of year and I never tire of the walk down to the beach through the woods. This was my first time out there since the snow and ice melted and I was really surprised by the changes to the beach! There is a lot more beach there this year, but the sand around the point has really morphed in shape! Sam and Colin were a joy to explore all of this with. I had a ton of fun and I’m thrilled to be photographing their wedding. Cheers friends!
